11/201110/2013 Continuing education, International Travel, and achieving personal objectives
I left my contract position with SAIC in goodstanding, and decided on a hiatus, for rest and recuperation after
being deployed overseas 5+ years in military and contract positions. During this break, I achieved personal goals
of exploring Brazil’s cities, culture, and language. I was also able to reconnect with family and friends I had not
seen for years during my deployed life. To maintain market relevancy I completed the following:
● Planned for future advanced learning, by building a full 7 foot commercialgrade networking rack, utilizing 13 Routers, 7
switches, a RAID 5, 24 Terabyte storage array, and RAID 50, 2.5 Terabyte, Dell R610 rackserver running HyperV and
VMWare software, allowing me to pursue continuing server education at home, and advanced networking education
practice, to the CCNP, and up to the CCIE level on my offtime.
● In addition to my home lab, I studied for newly redesigned industry standard certifications, renewing my CompTia
Security+ certification, and achieving a CCNA R&S, and CCNA Security certification for 2013, Microsoft’s MCSA for
Server 2012, and MCSE for Server Infrastructure, to remain both uptodate in technology, and employability.
11/201011/2011 SAIC, Combined Joint Interagency Task Force (CJIATF435) Tactical Biometrics Cell Afghanistan, (TBCA),
Network Engineer, and backup Systems Engineer role – (Bagram Air Field (BAF), Afghanistan)
● Completed a complex coordination and scheduled the relocation of primary biometrics operations facility while
maintaining a functional continuity of operations (COOP) backup location of all Bagram biometrics servers and databases
without losing match capability in the process.
● Created processes for tracking technical, configuration, and procedural change via a Change Management system that had
not been in wide use. Tracked complex changes through the strict adherence to Configuration Control Board (CCB) and
including all interested parties in design and process changes.
● Obtained dedicated biometrics network IP space for all biometrics presence locations in Afghanistan, giving substantial
flexibility, and growth potential of biometrics operations in Afghanistan.
● Provided Network and Systems engineer roles, to maintain onsite capability redundancy and functional overlap of Lead
Systems Engineer position during emergency, leave/R&R, and mission travel absences, etc.
● Worked with military to transport biometrics data in customized fashions to meet US/Coalition force requirements
● Developed directly with Biometrics Enterprise Manager a customized complex biometrics database synchronization
process to fit the unique network conditions of each remote, forward operating location while increasing enterprisewide
database synchronization. This resulted in increased matchtimes. I standardized the concept in flowchart + diagramed
templates to allow for easier understanding, and implementation by both biometrics systems//network engineers and
management personnel.
11/200910/2010 SAIC, Tactical Biometrics Systems, JTF435 Network Engineer – (ISAF Headquarters, Kabul , Afghanistan)
● Maintained & supported TBS & TF Biometrics networks in Afghanistan.
● Provided troubleshooting, design assistance, and advice to supporting military J6 systems and network personnel.
● Monitored, and advised military command of TF Biometrics network requirements, and worked to solve related problems
over both secure & nonsecure WANs and LANs.
● Increased transfer speeds of weekly missioncritical watch lists in excess of 2 gigabytes by 400% over limited bandwidth
networks by working with CJTF 82, & CJTF101 to approve Commercial off the Shelf (COTS) point to point data
compression software for use on SIPRnet Biometrics Automated Toolset (BAT) servers.
● Assisted Field Service/Systems Engineers in building, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting BAT servers.
● Created, updated, and briefed periodical diagrams of the changing biometrics enterprise network architecture.
● Arranged biometric client & server network connectivity with International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) CJ6
network personnel to allow networked TF Biometric database servers to be accessed by NATO/FOUO BAT clients.
● Assisted in converting the majority of biometrics operations on SIPRnet to CENTRIXSISAF (CXI) operations.
● Worked with NATO Communication and Information Systems Services Agency (NCSA), & The NATO Consultation,
Command and Control Agency (NC3A) to get an Authority to Operate (ATO) Biometrics Automated Toolset clients on
the ISAFSECRET network, while being able to access the CXI biometrics database.
● Conducted site survey for the AABIS, (Afghan Automated Biometric Identification System), and worked with Task
Force Biometrics to get biometrics data collected in Afghanistan to the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigations), ABIS
(Automated Biometric Identification System), and NGIC (National Ground Intelligence Center) in VA, USA.
11/200810/2009 SAIC, Task Force Biometrics, Systems/Network Engineer – (JOC Bagram , Afghanistan)
● Documented and tested operating system changes to standardize the Language and Technology Office (LTO) BAT
software image, from Fort Huachuca, Arizona for use in Afghanistan.
● Foreign Disclosure Officer for ensuring proper declassification of US SECRET/NOFORN materials prior to any release
to foreign entities.
● Initiated, organized and successfully utilized the Satellite GBS (Global Broadcast System) for dissemination of biometrics
watch lists to locations without adequate SIPRnet, resulting in reduced casualties due to eliminating troop’s need to travel
in enemy space. Worked closely with Norfolk Virginia’s GBS Theater Injection Point (TIP), and CJTF82, CJTF76,
CJTF101 for dissemination of watch list files to all locations possible.
● Monitored, analyzed, and policed SIPRnet / NIPRnet bandwidth to keep control of missioncritical biometric data flow,
and not interrupt competing missioncritical traffic.
● Personally saw that Task Force Biometrics data be handled with priority in a “mission critical queue” with 40%
bandwidth allocation split among other mission critical services to separate it from nonmissioncritical traffic in the
entire afghan theater on SIPRnet.
● Identified problems with QOS (Quality of Service) implementation for biometrics data, and other theater data, resulting in
significantly improved bandwidth utilization for all mission critical systems in Afghanistan on SIPRnet.
● Remotely managed and monitored biometrics servers theaterwide.
● Reduced theater footprint by 80%, simultaneously increasing transfer speeds by continually redirecting biometrics server
synchronizations to match its physical layout as to eliminate redundant data transmission, and bandwidth usage.
● Ensured the database synchronization between servers was completed timely, and provide remote Field Systems
Engineers with any server or data sync assistance when needed.
